As more and more malicious software (trojans) are found in mobile applications, Google Play Store has been the latest platform where five Android apps were found to contain a trojan called Anatsa. Experts recommend removing these apps without delay.
Android users warned about Anatsa trojan
As of 2024, we carry all our important data on our smartphones, making it crucial to be cautious about the apps we download. Unfortunately, in some cases, apps containing trojans can slip through the checks of both the Google Play Store and the App Store, posing a threat to user security.
Thread Fabric’s latest report reveals the detection of the Anatsa banking trojan in five Android apps. While these apps have been removed from the Play Store, they still pose a danger to smartphones and tablets where they were previously installed.
Here are the five Android apps found to contain the Anatsa banking trojan:
- Phone Cleaner – File Explorer
- PDF Viewer – File Explorer
- PDF Reader – Viewer & Editor
- Phone Cleaner: File Explorer
- PDF Reader: File Manager
The main issue with these apps is that, after installation, a hacker can take control of your device without your knowledge. In addition to accessing your personal data, they can also cause financial damage by making payments through your banking apps. In short, apps containing the Anatsa trojan can drain your bank account. Lastly, it’s worth noting that these apps were downloaded between 150,000 to 200,000 times before being removed from the Google Play Store.
